Entertainment should be for everyone. That is not a slogan - it is a principle that has shaped how we build Let's Go Games from the ground up. When someone walks into your venue for game night, they should be able to participate fully regardless of visual ability, motor skills, or technical confidence. Here is how we make that happen.

Why Accessibility Matters in Entertainment

Roughly 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women have some form of colour vision deficiency. That means in a room of 100 people, there is a good chance that 4 or 5 of them struggle with standard red-green colour schemes. If your game interface relies on colour alone to communicate information, those players are at a disadvantage.

Beyond colour blindness, many people have reduced vision, limited dexterity, or simply find small text and tiny buttons difficult to use. Entertainment software that ignores these needs excludes a significant portion of your audience. We think that is not acceptable.

Colorblind Themes

Let's Go Games includes three dedicated colorblind themes, each designed for a specific type of colour vision deficiency:

Protanopia
Optimised for red-blind colour vision. Replaces red-green distinctions with blue-yellow contrasts that are clearly distinguishable.
Deuteranopia
Designed for green-blind colour vision, the most common form of colour blindness. Uses high-contrast colour pairs that avoid problematic combinations.
Tritanopia
Built for blue-yellow colour blindness. Uses red-green contrasts and avoids blue-yellow pairings entirely.
High Visibility
Maximum contrast theme with large, bold elements. Ideal for venues with bright ambient lighting or older displays.

Each theme has been carefully crafted to ensure that all game information - numbers, scores, selections, and status indicators - is clearly visible and distinguishable without relying on colour alone.

High Visibility Mode

The High Visibility theme goes beyond colour correction. It increases contrast across the entire interface, uses larger text sizes, and ensures all interactive elements stand out clearly against the background. It is particularly useful for:

  • Venues with bright ambient lighting where screen visibility is reduced
  • Events with older audiences who may prefer larger text
  • Projector setups where colours can appear washed out
  • Anyone who simply prefers a cleaner, higher-contrast look

Touch Targets

On mobile devices, every interactive element in Let's Go Games meets a minimum touch target size of 44 by 44 pixels. This is the accessibility standard recommended by Apple and Google, and it ensures that buttons and controls are easy to tap accurately, even for users with reduced dexterity or larger fingers.

This matters particularly for phone play, where players are making quick decisions on their phones during fast-paced games. Mis-taps are frustrating. Properly sized touch targets eliminate that frustration.

Why 44px?

The 44px minimum comes from Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and is widely considered the gold standard for touch accessibility. It ensures comfortable, accurate tapping for the widest possible range of users.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Every game in Let's Go Games supports keyboard shortcuts for hosts. This means you can control the entire game without touching the mouse, which is faster and more accessible for hosts with motor difficulties.

Press ? in any game to see the full list of available keyboard shortcuts. Common shortcuts include advancing to the next question, calling bingo numbers, triggering effects, and navigating between panels.

Accessibility Features at a Glance

  • 3 colorblind themes (protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia)
  • High visibility theme for maximum contrast
  • 44px minimum touch targets on all mobile controls
  • Full keyboard shortcut support for hosts
  • Session recovery if connection drops
  • No app download required - works in any browser
  • Clear, readable fonts at all screen sizes
  • Information conveyed through shape and text, not colour alone

Session Recovery

Dropped connections happen. A player's phone loses signal, the WiFi hiccups, or someone accidentally closes their browser tab. In Let's Go Games, session recovery means players can rejoin the game and pick up exactly where they left off. Their bingo card, quiz answers, and game state are all preserved.

This is particularly important for accessibility because it removes the stress and anxiety of losing progress. Players can relax and enjoy the game knowing that a technical glitch will not ruin their experience.

How to Switch Themes

Switching to an accessibility theme is straightforward:

  1. Open the host settings panel in any game
  2. Navigate to the Themes section
  3. Select your preferred accessibility theme
  4. The theme applies instantly to both host and audience displays

Players on phone play will also see the updated theme on their devices, ensuring a consistent experience across all screens.

Hosting Tip

If you know your audience includes people with colour vision deficiency, switch to the appropriate colorblind theme before the event starts. You can also mention it at the beginning of the night - players will appreciate that you have thought about their needs.

Entertainment for Everyone

Accessibility is not an afterthought or a box-ticking exercise. It is built into every feature of Let's Go Games. When we add a new game or feature, we test it against all our accessibility themes and ensure it meets our touch target and keyboard navigation standards.

The result is entertainment software that genuinely works for everyone in the room. No one gets left out. No one struggles to read the screen. No one misses a call because the button was too small. That is how entertainment should be.
